 A whole change of plans.....

    As I talked to my Aice media teacher she told me to change the beginning part (getting ready) she said it's way overused and she knows I can do better than that. This scared me a lot because I have to change the whole beginning part of my project, redo half my script, and redo half of my storyboard. I came to a really good idea that I think you guys will like which is way better. My new character that is introduced is my best friend Brooke Walton. I will be making a mood board for her so you guys can get a feel of her vibe and personality.

    This is what I wrote before:

A summary of the opening will be about a normal teenage girl getting ready for school on a beautiful day. She listens to her music and does her usual routine, but as she gets into her car she gets a message from her mom saying to answer the phone. She answers the phone confused and worried. As it goes silent for a moment she screams and drives off fast. It leaves a question for the audience asking "what did her mom say?" and "Why did she scream?".

It's a normal day and the two girls are having fun with no worries.  As the main character leaves her best friend's house she gets into her car and starts it, but as she gets into her car she gets a message from her mom saying to answer the phone.  She answers the phone confused and worried. As it goes silent for a moment she screams and drives off fast. It leaves a question for the audience asking "what did her mom say?" and "Why did she scream?".

 SCRIPT

    Before I start on my script I wanted to talk about why I picked this decision and not an outline or narrative. My opening barely has any words.  So a narrative would be an awesome idea but I decided to challenge myself a little more and write a script. An outline is way too easy as well and wouldn't challenge me. For my script writing, I'm using the website Celtx.com and also had my friend Victoria help me out a bit with navigating the website.  Here is my script!!!

    I also wanted to add something. The storyboard was a really hard process for me but I'm so glad I did it. It helped me so much with my script and made it so easy for me to put the scenes together because my thoughts were already there.

The storyboarding process took about two days but I finally finished. It's kinda ugly because I am not good at drawing but I did my best.

After thinking about the perfect font for my title and credits..... I've decided on going with the Dancing script font because it looks really nice and adds that dramatic look to my opening. 

I will be asking my teacher tomorrow if I need to do a narrative or if I can just do an outline. I don't need to make a script because my project has barely any dialogue so I will get back to you guys tomorrow about that.

Wow, this storyboard and the shot list are hard. One problem I'm having right now is deciding on what song I want to put behind the beginning as my character is getting ready for school because I don't want to contact the producer to use the song. So I have to find a song that is copyright free. I will keep you guys updated on that and my storyboard plus script will be done by tomorrow night. Which I will be posting as well for you guys.

 Filming schedule

Starting the week of the 27th: 

    I will start to film the opening parts of my project which will be easy. Throughout the week I will begin to do the significant components of my project when my mom is off from work. By the end of next week, I want to finish the opening. I want to be editing by the week of March 6th and be done editing that week so I can put the final piece together. I will be posting my script and shot list/storyboard later this weekend.

     This was a short posting but I just wanted to let yall know what the upcoming schedule is and I can't wait to get started!!!

 Camera equipment 

This is going to be a quick posting but I wanted to talk about what ill be using to film my project. For Christmas, I got a canon gx7 mark iii camera with the best quality ever. I am pretty sure this camera will be very good to film with for this project. I also have a tripod as well which will help to hold the camera up if needed. It's very easy to use and is not a big camera.

I doubt I will be using my phone for this project but that is my plan B if something doesn't work out. I will keep you guys updated throughout the week with more on my project.

 Editing Softwares

Adobe or Imovie?: 

They are both excellent editing software, and the video will come out great if they are used correctly. I first got my hands on adobe when I used Adobe after effects for editing. I used to have a fan page for a certain tiktoker I loved and would edit pictures and make cool effects switching from each picture, but I never really got good at it because it was kinda tricky. I then got to use Premiere pro on adobe in 7th and 8th-grade film class. I was known to be the one "editing" the video in any of the film groups I had. I was really good and all my projects came out great. The problem is I haven't touched adobe since then. At the beginning of this year, I tried to install adobe on my computer but it wouldn't download on my mac. If I decide to use adobe I would need to figure out a way for premier pro to install on my computer or use a different computer to go on premier pro. Imove is an easier way to make my project and is already installed on my computer but it doesn't have all the cool effects that you could get on premiere. Im going to take some time tonight to figure out how to download adobe on my computer and I will get you guys an update on it.

Let's meet her: 

My character's name will be Cecelia. This mood board gives you guys a glimpse of what my character's personality/vibe will be through the movie. She loves the beach as well as cheerleading. 

Costume design: 

Throughout the film's opening Cecelia will be wearing a cute urban shirt with ripped jeans and air jordans. Her outfit can show some of her personality and how she's a very happy girl. 

Color scheme: 

The color scheme for the opening part will be very bright and clear. Her day starts off perfectly and I want the audience to feel that. As she gets on the phone with her mother, The lighting will start to get a little darker than usual. The dark lighting will show that the news she got isn't good news and gives a worried feeling.

 Target audience and characters 

Drama genre: 

Drama films usually target people aged 45 and over but below that too. This genre tends to grab an audience that likes to feel emotions and like a suspenseful story. Don't know about you but drama films tend to get me on the edge of my seat. Drama films aim to make the audience feel some type of emotion and can even make one shed a tear. 

EXAMPLES OF POPULAR DRAMA FILMS

Characters:

When I first wrote the film opening I was planning on I showed my mom and dad and started to cry because of how deep it was. They ended up loving it and want to help me with the project. I'm still figuring out of I want to use myself or my mother. 

PROS AND CONS OF USING MOTHER: My mom works a lot so it could be hard getting a good time to film her but it definitely could work. Also, my mom's acting might be a little lame cause she is not good at acting. A major pro can be that my mother is the one who screamed at the time she found out about my father, which means she knows all the exact emotions she felt at the time and she could try to show those. Using my mom would mean I would need to change a little bit of the storyline but it won't be that hard.

I could have her getting ready for work in the morning and while she's getting in the car she gets the call. Although this seems easy I feel like having myself do it and getting a text message from my mother to answer the phone might give the audience a better understanding of what is going on.

Focus:

My focus is to get the audience to feel confused after. I want them to have questions like "Why did her mom want her to answer the phone so bad?," "Why did she scream?" and "What did her mom say on the phone?". I want the audience to crave more from the 2-minute opening.

 DRAMA

    After thoughts about what genre my film falls under, I decided on drama. There are 7 types of drama categories: Comedy, Farce, tragedy, Tragi-comedy, Melodrama, Opera, and Musical. My drama film falls under the tragedy category. Tragedy drama is focused on human suffering. The main character suffers through the story but in the end, can learn something about themselves and their place in the world. 

    As my character gets this bad news of her dad getting into an accident, her whole life changes. If this film were to actually be a whole movie, in the end, my family ends up healthy as ever along with my dad recovering. We learn many life lessons, although we suffered through a lot for the following 10 years after his accident.

This is just the beginning......

My Idea

     Yesterday's class was definitely a lot to take in. At first, I wanted to work with a group but everyone I asked already had one or wanted to work individually. That scared me because that meant I would have to get out of my comfort zone and work by myself on a big part of the media exam. After lots of thinking I had three ideas for a film opening. One was called Broken rules, Wheres dad?, Moved, and The Change. I picked The Change. 

    The ideas I have for this project are great and I can't wait to get started. A summary of the opening will be about a normal teenage girl getting ready for school on a beautiful day.      I wanted to talk about why I picked this story and how I actually experienced this. When I was in kindergarten I got into my mom's car with my brother and sat in the back. I was happy and I was trying to talk to my mom about how my day went but she told me to be quiet. She seemed pretty confused while she was speaking on the phone. For a moment it goes silent and I hear my mom scream like no other. To this day that scream will always be remembered because that was the scream of my mom finding out my dad was injured in the line of duty. That one moment changed my entire life. My dad a police officer, had been involved in an incident and he suffered a traumatic brain injury and he had died. my father's heart had ceased beating and no brain activity was detected.

    My dad was saved by grace and upon his return, he was in a coma for 6 weeks.  When he woke up I couldn't even go see him. He couldn't speak English only Spanish, it was like he was a baby again. His behaviors were awful. After group homes that were local then due to his behavior caused by his injuries, he was sent to a rehabilitation/group home all the way in Tampa and lots of doctors. At this moment he is better than ever and is the best dad. 
    

    I can't wait to take you guys on this fun and new learning journey with me!!!!

      Violet Heart

Research:

    Our research consisted of our case studies which were Bon Jovi, Imagine Dragons, John Harvie, and Kaleo.  After researching these artists/ bands, we got a lot of background information on our genre heavy metal. This research helped my group gain more knowledge about the genre because we were not really familiar with it. We all split the research in half so we all got the same amount of stuff done for the research part. 

 

Brainstorming/planning

For our brainstorming, we all worked together to create something we all wanted to do and produce. All of our ideas and thoughts brought in much creativity into the music video and what we wanted to show the audience. After listening to all three songs that we had to choose from, we came to the conclusion that Mother Mother by Tracy Bonham was the best fit for all of us. Planning as well as worked on together and ideas bounced back from one another to create an amazing video. Having Maria was very helpful because she is a part of CBTV and she had all her camera equipment planned out and ready to go. 

Production/Post-production

Production was a very fun process to do with my group. At first, we all were trying to come up with perfect times to film but we ended up getting two days where we all came together and filmed the project. Maria had very good CBTV equipment she used which brought the music video to life. She really did a good job at helping us film and put everything together. We also used my car for the part where Natalia is running which was very funny to film because Maria had to sit in my trunk for it. Post-production was edited on adobe and Maria was very good at her editing. 

Presentation

Our presentation was very well done and flowed really well together. We had purple color throughout the whole canva presentation which was Violets vibe. Everyone in the group did their own slides and also presented their own slides and bounced off some slides if needed. I think it was very well done and had all the information needed. 

Reflection 

This project helped me learn a lot of things. I learned a lot about how to organize thoughts and be a better planner. I also learned how to work with a big group and organize my time to film this project with my group. I think this project will help with my portfolio because it gives me ideas about what I can do for my project and I also will know how to plan better which will have my portfolio well organized.
